Keeping Durham Beautiful

A few weeks ago we went to Hillside Park to plant some trees and we learned a brief history the park such as is in 1922 the first high school in Durham that allowed black students to participate but was moved later.

Another key aspect of the park is that it was home to the Algonquin Club. The Algonquin Club was a gathering space for the black community of Durham. They also hosted sporting events, such as a tennis tournament. The founding place for the Durham Committee on Negro Affairs (now the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People). The club was operational from 1930-1964. The original club building was converted into the W.D Hill Recreation Center which burned down in 1968. The place where the building was is still home to the W.D. Hill Recreation Center. W.D Hill was an executive at NC Mutual Life Insurance.

Why is it important to plant trees:

It is important to plant trees because it helps give us shade and keep our world healthy. It would help this planet so much if you just try to make it a better place.

Come to Berlin

*photo taken at Google*

Berlin is a marvelous place full of good food and history. Let me give you some reasons why to go. First, come and see the Brandenburg Gate (above). It was made to be a symbol of royal power in Prussia, and was later a key part of the Berlin Wall. You can also see the remnants of it. Just behind the gate is the Reichstag, the building that houses the German parliament.

Food: Berlin is the home of the currywurts it was made by the large Turkish population in the city, and esbein, a pork knuckles

History: Berlin was founded in 1237 and served as the capital of the kingdom of Prussia. Napoleon held a great triumph there in 1806. It was home to the Olympics in 1936 under the Nazi dictatorship and was the site of the last major battle in Europe in 1945, when the soviets took the city in 1945. In 1961, the Berlin Wall was established by the East German government, and it was torn apart in 1989, leading to German reunification.

What Makes a Good Story

If you want to make a good story, it has to follow a neutral ground. You can’t be swayed from your opinions or any other. You have to state the facts and only the facts if you want to give as many facts as possible about your topic, and you can’t just get sources from one perspective; you have to get information from both sides. Make sure you start it with a hook to drag them in, and make sure it has emotion and tension. Just put your ideas on the page and follow your heart. These were just some of my ideas, so please tell me what you think.

Do you like adventure, mystery, and family drama? Then Squirm is the book for you. It follows a kid named Billy. He lives with his mother and sister, his father is out doing a mysterious job out in the country, and is in trouble. Can Billy solve the mystery and reunite the family? Find out in Squirm by Carl Hiaasen. I hope you enjoy the book and have a great day.

The Rattlesnake

This right here is my project on the rattlesnake. It’s one of the most fascinating animals in the wild. It is an animal that has evolved to be an expert hunter. They have learned to use the rocky formation of the desert to their advantage, hiding under rocks and dead shrubs. They truly are one of nature’s most stunning creatures, and in my opinion, they are the best snakes. Please comment your thoughts below.

Book review

Do you like a sci-fi historical mash-up of action and adventure? Then Cake Eaters by Allyson Dahlin is the book for you. It keeps you hooked every step of the way. Follow Marie Antoinette in the year 3070 as she looks past the luxuries of Versailles and finds a darker secret behind the glitter and glamor.

This book shows what it feels like to get thrown into a new environment and try to understand a world you don’t know. Some of my favorite details of the story are how the author tries to put you in a worldview like Marie’s, and how it feels to be privileged and feel bad for the less fortunate.

I recommend this book for those who like romance, action, and adventure. This book hooked me, and it will surely hook you. Please commit your thoughts so I can hear what you think.
